The issue about housing allowances that led staff from GoSS ministry of Commerce and Industry to go on strike is almost solved and the money should be paid within three days, the minister announced.

Stephen Dhieu told journalists that the Government of Southern Sudan decided to extend housing allowances to civil servants up to grade 17.

Mr. Dhieu said in September the ministry went through its payroll and found that 40 percent of its names were ghost workers.

He said the workers went on strike because they did not talk with him and did not know why the payment was delayed.

Mr. Dhieu added that the screening of workers is concluded and the housing allowances will be paid within three days.

The minister said that although there are some 500 names in the payroll of his ministry, the number of its staff is around 300.
