GoSS Minister for Health launched yesterday a new polio campaign in Kator Health Centre, Juba.
Minister Luka Tombekana Monoja said the three-day campaign aimed at eliminating polio from Southern Sudan, Bakhita Radio reported.Dr. Monoja pointed out that between April 2008 and June 2009 polio virus crippled for ever 64 children in all the states of Southern Sudan except Western Bahr El Ghazal.
Dr. Monoja said children were crippled by the polio virus because they were not vaccinated.
He added that bad infrastructure and lack of trained personnel were other related factors.
Dr. Monoja called on all Southern Sudanese mothers to have their under-five children vaccinated against polio.
Vaccinators go from house to house to give the vaccine to children bellow five years of age together with Vitamin “A”.
