Central Equatoria polio fighters are being prepared In Juba for a new immunization campaign due to start on November 2 to protect children from the virus.
Central Equatoria Manager for Expanded Programme on Immunization, George Lege, told SCR News that county, payam and boma polio programme directors were taught supervision skills to make the upcoming campaign a success.Mr. Lege said vaccinators would go from house to house to give the vaccine to children bellow five years of age.
He explained that vitamin “A” would be also distributed during the vaccination campaign.
Mr. Lege added that the month of November was usually favourable for polio immunization due to the end of rain enabling vaccinators to move to the most distant communities.
He urged mothers to keep their small children at home to receive the vaccine and the vitamin.
Polio is a crippling disease disabling many children in South Sudan.
