The office for Justice and Peace in the Catholic Diocese of Malakal organized a one-day workshop on referendum issues for leaders from remote centres in the diocese.

Fr. Mathew Pagan Daniel, the coordinator for Justice and Peace department, told Radio Voice of Love that the training focused mostly on the Referendum Act.

Fr. Pagan said it was the duty of the Church to inform its leaders who are living with the local population in the remote areas on issues about the referendum.

He explained that the trained church leaders would return to their villages to share what they learned with the youth and local population.

Fr. Pagan urged Southerners to see the referendum as an historic and golden chance that will never repeat itself.

He encouraged all citizens to turn up for registration and voting, adding that it was their absolute right to decide about their self-determination.

The workshop was attended by leaders from Tonga, Fangak, Kodok, Kaka and Melut centres.
