Yei, Morobo and Lainya county residents are attending a two-day civic education awareness programme on the referendum due for January 9, 2011.
Lomoro Sam is the area Coordinator for the Institute of Promotion for Civil Society (IPCS). He told Easter Radio that the training that started today in Yei aimed at familiarizing voters with their roles in the referendum.Mr. Lomoro said that each payam of Yei, Morobo and Lainya counties sent two representatives to the workshop.
He explained that the participants will pass on the information to the population at payam and boma level.
Mr. Lomoro added that the same training would be conducted in all the counties of Central and Western Equatoria.
IPCS gender officer Agnes Roba said this was the right time for women to know issues that affected them and their families.
Ms. Roba added that civic education was very important to help women to determine their future and decide whether they wanted to be first or second class citizens.
The training was organized by Yei Women Association and funded by IPCS.
