The European Union Commission allocated 1.2 million euros to support human rights and pro-democracy domestic NGOs to achieve their mission in the Sudan.
Domestic NGOs, including civil activists, Church and community based organizations, and international NGOs attended a guideline workshop in Juba this morning to understand areas of concern and how to apply for funds.EU Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights coordinator in Sudan Chiara Galletti told SCR News that the EU allotted 1.2 million Euros, over four million Sudanese pounds, to support NGOs operating in Sudan address human rights and democratization issues.
Ms. Galletti said the EU wanted to learn from grassroots organizations what the most important actions to be implemented in the Sudan were.
Ms. Galletti added that although the EU valued the work of international NGOs, it encouraged domestic NGOs to submit their own projects because their roles were crucial in the country.
Eligible NGOs are expected to submit their proposals until November 8 in time for evaluation.
