Women in the Diaspora said lack of information on the referendum was a major challenge they faced.

SCR News caught up with some women living abroad after the closing of a women’s conference on the referendum.

Aguil Deng Acworth said women in Australia were seeking information on the referendum as an important exercise.

Mrs. Acworth said that when the CPA was ratified they knew southerners would come back home to vote.

Natalina Malual, a resident in the United States of America, lamented the total absence of communication from Southern Sudan on what was happening in the region concerning the government and the referendum.

Ms. Malual said a lot of information about Southern Sudan posted in the internet was incorrect.

Southern Sudanese women living abroad said they wanted to participate in the referendum to exercise their right to self-determination like any other Southerner.
