Youth for Separation asked today for a free environment during the referendum campaign for promoters of independence or unity to express their stands.

A network of youth groups took to the streets of Juba today campaigning for the independence of southern Sudan in the upcoming referendum of self-determination, while many traders kept their shops closed.

Speaking to SCR News, mobilizing secretary for South Sudan Youth Forum for Referendum, Angelo Otim, said that northerners should be free to come and campaign for unity in South Sudan.

Mr. Otim stated that separatists expected a fair treatment from their counterparts in order to campaign in the north.

Participant Agade Obongno Abola explained that not all southerners were for separation due to unknown reasons, and that they should not be intimidated for that.

Mr. Abola remained confident that the yes for separation will win the referendum vote.

The referenda for self-determination of South Sudan and Abuei are now three months away. The registration of voters should start on November 14.
