AIDS COMMISSION LAUNCHES 2010 HIV AWARENESS COMPAIGN

South Sudan AIDS commission launched today the 2010 awareness campaign under the slogan “Get tested stay alive.”

Addressing the press today at the commission headquarters in Juba, chairperson Novello Esterina said that the aim of the campaign was to increase awareness on the disease in South Sudan as part of the global efforts to fight HIV and AIDS.

Ms. Novello added that the key activities of the campaign would take place at GoSS, State, County and Payam levels through television and radio talk shows and workshops among other activities including sports and testings.

The commission called upon the public and private partners to join efforts in making the campaign a success.

Ms. Navello revealed that recent studies show that an estimated 3.8 million people are at a risk of acquiring HIV and 60 thousand have so far been tested positive in South Sudan.
