The privatization drive has kicked off with formulation of policies to create a favorable atmosphere for the practice. In Eastern Equatoria state, Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries become the first sectors involved in the policy formulation for privatization and extension of services.
State Director General for Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries, Lawrence Otika Joseph, said privatization is a new concept to Southern Sudan.
He observed that the practice needs to be given time for the people to embrace it, saying several issues are involved in privatization, including public sensitization, good policies and money for investment.
Mr. Otika added that though Southern Sudan Vice President, Dr. Riak Machar Teny, recently emphasized the issue of privatization, the attitude of the people that government is the only employer should be changed for the practice to succeed in the region.
