It is obvious that the upcoming referendum will have a lot of challenges in Western Equatoria state due to the perpetual suffering and trauma caused by the Lords’ Resistance Army LRA attacks, said a Member of Parliament.
The LRA is a Ugandan insurgency that has turned into a regional menace targeting south Sudan, Congo and Central Republic. Reports indicate that south Sudan has suffered most of LRA’s attacks.
Addressing the members of Parliament today in the south Sudan Legislative Assembly, Bernado Kpasira Martin form Nzara in Western Equatoria State said many people will not be able to register and vote in the referendum because they will not b stable in their homes.

He added that the enemies of peace are trying to fail the people of south Sudan not to be free from injustice and oppression.

Mr. Kpasira charged that the LRA has not been considered as a serious concern to the government of south Sudan because it has not been allocated in the budget to target the LRA operations.

He requested the government to allocate special funds to improve logistics and information to the SPLA, urge the ministry of SPLA affairs to deploy additional highly trained forces along the borders and to support the arrow boys who are defending the public against the LRA attacks.

The report indicated fourteen diffenret attacks in the last two months. Mr. Kpasira affirmed that many more attacks have been taking place although they were not included in the report.
LRA is said to be expanding to Western Bahr-El-Ghazal state of south Sudan too.
