More than 200 Eastern Equatorians have expressed interest to run for political jobs either as members of parliament or governor in the upcoming elections due in April 11.
According to the list published by the National Election High Committee, 133 candidates have been nominated to contest for Eastern Equatoria State Legislative Assembly seats while 56 for South Sudan Legislative Assembly, Radio Emmanuel reported.Another 36 are running for the National assembly while three contestants have shown interest for the governorship.
The candidates for governor are Abdalla Albert Alfogar, for the NCP, Louis Lobong Lojore, for the SPLM, and Aloisio Emor Ojetuk, the current governor who runs as independent candidate.
Meanwhile the National Election Commission has rejected to nominate seven people who submitted their names for various legislative positions but failed to avail the Commission with required documents to support their applications.
Juma Amos Ochieng, the Eastern Equatoria State Election High Committee Secretary, said the public and the candidates are given a chance to submit objections with 72 hours from the time of publication of the list.
