The National Election Commission (NEC) has rejected three candidates, including a woman, for the presidential polls in the April on the grounds that their applications were incomplete.
NEC official Salah Habeeb said the three candidates did not meet the requirements to run for the presidency, Gurtong website reported. The opposition parties have long complained the requirements for standing for the presidency were too tough and needed some adjustment.
A candidate must gather 15,000 supporting signatures from 18 of 25 states and pay 10 thousand Sudanese Pounds.
The opposition says the NEC stringent rules are to skew the vote in favor of Mr. al-Bashir’s party, which has ruled Sudan since 1989.
