Teachers in the three payams of Juba County are demanding October salaries after they were paid the September wages in order to resume work, an official said.

Teachers in Juba County went on strike demanding their two months unpaid salaries since nine days ago.

Talking to journalists, Central Equatoria State minister for Education, Stephen Lemi Lokuron, said yesterday that teachers are not willing to go to classes before they get the October salaries regardless of their unpaid colleagues’ salaries of September.

Mr. Lemi said that this is unfair because other teachers within the Juba County are not yet paid the salaries of September.

Mr. Lemi added that teachers of the three payams should think of their colleagues and employers from other ministries who have not received September salaries.

Mr. Lemi’s statement comes after nine days of teachers’ strike for unpaid salaries.

State Governor, Clement Wani Konga, and his minister for Education are to meet today with teachers’ representatives to find an amicable solution to the salaries dispute.
