Sts Peter and Paul Gidel Parish in Nuba Mountains celebrated Ash Wednesday.
Presiding over the Eucharistic celebration, Gidel Assistant Parish Priest, Deogratius Minja said Ash Wednesday was to prepare for Lent season to look into spiritual live, Voice of Peace reported.
He said Lent was a season of penance and sacrifice.
Fr Minja said smearing ashes on people’s foreheads signifies that Christians are people who can pass away.
He said Lent period requires the faithful to go deep into their hearts, confess their sins, love and forgive one another and be prayerful.
The Assistant Parish priest advised Christians to reduce the ratio they eat everyday and avoid eating meat on Wednesdays and Fridays as they prepare for the Easter.
The Catholic Church worldwide celebrated Ash Wednesday yesterday to mark the beginning of Lent.
