The bishop of El-Obeid diocese, His Lordship bishop Tombe Tirrele Kuku, has send a letter of advice to Christians in the Nuba Mountains pastoral region.
The message read to the congregation on the day of Christmas by Father James William, tells the faithful not to fear for the saviour has been born.
The Sudanese people live a miserable life of conflict, diseases and have become refugees in the neighboring countries, the letter read.
The letter further encouraged the Sudanese people to stand united in these hard times in the country praying for a universal peace in the whole country.
Meanwhile Fr. James, who is also the coordinator of education in the pastoral region challenged people about the wave of theft crimes.
He said this was a deliberate act to destroy the future of the Nuba Mountains region.
The priest recalled a recent incident in which thieves broke into Saints Peter and Paul primary school’s store and carried away all the scholastic materials that were newly donated to the school.
He remarked that sometimes the thief might be known but people do not mention them saying such attitude will not help the Nuba Mountains people.
He urged people to return the stolen items so that pupils can continue to learn. The Father said he was dismayed by the level of increased crime in that it has reached the doors of the church.
Around August a Comboni Missionary Sister was robbed near their compound with the suspect said to have been arrested but later the police said he escaped from prison.
Fr. James called people to be serious and responsible and unite as citizens, the church and government so as to fight corruption in the region.
Nuba Mounts region is struggling to contain hunger that ensued after the influx of internally displaced people from Khartoum when the conflict broke out in April 2023.
