Wau Hospital records high teenage pregnancies, confirms gynecologist

Gynecologist at Wau Teaching Hospital says during the last 16 months they recorded high rate of teenage pregnancies excluding St. Daniel Comboni Hospital, Mary Help and other health units in Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
Dr. William John Musa explains that out of 7,946 pregnant mothers, 1,863 of them are between 15-19 years and 56 were below age 15, Voice of Hope Radio reported.

He adds that they conducted many operations to teenagers associated to medical complications because of early pregnancy.

Dr Justin Pitya Wani, Manager of Gender-Based Violence Center at Wau Teaching Hospital says 80 percent of teenagers are students.
He adds that COVID-19 also contributed to increase in rate of gender-based violence, early and unwanted pregnancy.

Anesthesia Specialist, Dr. Stephen Ageri explains that they are facing a lot of challenges when it comes to signing documents for the surgery to take place.
During emergency it is difficult to get blood donor because most them are rejected by their families, he adds.
