Authority condemned early-forced marriage practices in the community

The Police officer in the department of Child protection unit in Tonj south county of Warrap sate on Wednesday urged entire community to respect the law of South Sudan Child Act reminding them to refrain.

Magau Malok Deng said that South Sudan Child Act prohibit girls below eighteen years old to be married off.

He explains that whoever violate South Sudan Child Act that was established in 2008 may face consequences of paying five cows as compensation and will be detained for fourteen years in the prison.

Malok Deng emphasised that it is forbidden to exercise sexual intercourse with young girl or conduct marriages, though the parent agree to pay some cows.

This statement comes after the administration of police Child Protection Unit has recorded three cases of underage in August 2022.

Deng disclosed that South Sudan act is very tough where it needs you to be stable and refrain from crime activities like sexual exploitation and killing.
