By Otto Abut – Juba

The Deputy Chairperson of the Steering Committee of Pope Francis’ visit on Monday blessed the foundation stone of the altar where the Holy Father will preside over solemn mass in July at Dr. John Garang Museum in Juba.

Bishop Stephen Nyodho sprinkled holy water to all people, the foundation place and the equipment that will be used to construct the altar.

He says Pope’s visit to the country is vital for all citizens to change, strengthen their faith and work together as one people in order to realize lasting peace as children of God.

“We pray that, this moment will be the time for change to all of us the people of South Sudan, the time to strengthen our faith and to work together. We work hand in hand to serve God with all commitment and dedication to this beloved country”, he appeals.

Executive Director in the Office of the President, James Deng Wal, says their office will address all issues raised by the Juba city mayor in relation to the preparation for the reception of the Holy Father.

“The peace that we are enjoying in our country has been prayed for by his Holiness Pope and all the religious leaders around the world”, he testifies.

“The reception of Pope in Juba “is our collective responsibility as people of South Sudan to make sure that this is a success”, Deng tells people.

Mayor of Juba City, Michael Lado Thomas Allah-Jabu, says his office is preparing the people and some roads in Juba.

“For this, I had even went further in order to meet preparation of the city with all the city authorities, by preparing the people and the road leading to Vatican embassy” the mayor revealed.

The leaders spoke during blessing of the foundation stone of the altar where the Poe Francis will preside over Eucharistic celebrations in early July.
