Archdiocese of Juba calls for assistance to Lokiliri IDPs currently in Gumbo

Catholic Archdiocese of Juba is calling for assistance to the internally displaced persons or IDPs who fled the recent incident in Lokiliri Payam and are currently in Gumbo.

According to Bakhita Radio, the IDPs mostly fled from Edomo, Ngarjebe, Nyolo, and Aru junction.

The chancellor of the Archdiocese Fr. Johnson Jada Kalisto says the IDPs are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

He is asking all the faithful and well-wishers to bring their support to help the needy.

William Akolo, chief of Ngarjebe Boma, says the cattle herders invaded their area, attacking, killing and looting people and their properties.

Meanwhile, one of the IDPs, Ajuworo Lino, says they have not received anything since they reached the place where they currently live.

At least 19 people were killed, thousands displaced and a village burnt to ashes by armed cattle keepers in Lokiliri Payam of Central Equatoria State last week.

Some officials in the Payam describe the attacks as unfortunate, adding that it was an extension of the Magwi County attack by cattle keepers allegedly from Jonglei State.

They say a large number of individuals had been sent to Juba and Uganda.
