One soldier was killed and two others were arrested for attempting to rob a heavily loaded trailer along the Wau-Aweil road, ten kilometres outside Wau.
Western Bahr El Ghazal Acting Commissioner for Police Albino Othou Mariano told journalists on Friday morning in Wau that state security organs arrested two Division Five soldiers accused of participating in an armed robbery that left one colleague dead. Voice of Hope reported.Colonel Othou added that the incident happened on March 25.
He said the exact number of robbers is unknown and the Military Intelligence collaborated with the Police to arrest the two suspects who are under army custody.
The Acting Police Commissioner revealed that a search will be conducted in different units in order to bring the other culprits to court.
He said widespread weapons and military uniforms among the public were the main cause for the high rate of criminality in the state.
Colonel Othou said the three soldiers escaped their duties in the Serimalga border area.
Four other cases of armed highway robbery on commercial vehicles occurred in the same place.
Colonel Othou said the authorities took the necessary steps to secure the Wau-Aweil road deploying different organized forces.
