The Administrator of Abyei area accused peacekeeping UNISFA or United Nation Interim Security Force for Abyei forces of failing to protect civilians and properties from constant attacks of nomad Arab militias for the last two months.

Mario Kon told Voice of Hope over the phone from Aniet that the situation in Abyei was stable since last Misseriya attack on the area.

He explained that during February and March, Arab militias conducted several attacks in different areas including Abyei Town, raiding cattle.

The official said the latest raid took place on March 24 in the presence of UNISFA forces.

Mr Kon added that the area was supposed to be disarmed according to UN Security Council Resolution but armed militia and Sudanese Armed Force are still present in Difra that in Dinka is called Kec Bier.

The Abyei administrator explained that if the attacks by Arab nomads produce new displacements they will affect the upcoming referendum on self-determination.
