The Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio elected HIV AIDS carriers as the main focus for its prayer during the Holy Week.
On Friday, thousands of faithful took part in the Way of the Cross from Yambio airstrip up to St. Mary’s Parish which is at the heart of the diocese, Anisa Radio reported.Catholic Bishop of Tombura-Yambio Barani Edwardo Hiiboro Kusala told the faithful to endure all kinds of sufferings during the long procession because Christ fell three times on his way to Golgotha where he was crucified.
Bishop Hiiboro asked people to pray to God to bless the antiretroviral drugs and end HIV AIDS in Western Equatoria and in South Sudan.
He called upon all Christians to offer gifts to HIV AIDS orphans, especially some 400 accommodated by the Diocese in Rii Yubu Parish.
State Governor Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro was the first to carry the cross over one kilometre.
Faithful from the three Catholic parishes in Yambio and from other Christian denominations took part on the Way of the Cross, many dressed in black walking barefooted for four hours to mourn the suffering of Jesus Christ and to pray to God to remove the HIV AIDS pandemic.
