Security operatives have arrested a man renowned for poaching elephants to trade ivory.
They recovered two rifles, two elephant tasks, one buffalo skin and tail from the suspect who confessed killing three elephants since 1995, Radio Emmanuel reported.The suspect revealed that he sold two tasks to a Ugandan dealer for 15,000 Kenyan Shillings, about 740 South Sudanese Pounds, each.
Eastern Equatoria Director of Wildlife Conservation Charles Laku said the man who organized elephant hunts in Kidepo Game Reserve was arrested through an intelligence operation.
He described the arrested as a dangerous poacher suspected of killing animals and humans both in Uganda and South Sudan.
Mr Laku said the poacher was on the run for four years until he was arrested this month.
The Director of Wildlife Conservation declined to disclose the identity of the suspected renowned poacher.
He said the man was arrested in Chukudum, Budi County, after he escaped from jail in 2011.
Mr Laku added that the poacher is under detention, awaiting investigations to be presented before the court.
He observed that the organized elephants and game poaching caused great threats as well as a major setback to Wildlife conservation in Kidepo area.
