Central Equatoria governor suggested that suspected cattle raiders arrested in Eastern Equatoria should be transferred to Juba to avoid escaping.
Clement Wani Konga made the suggestion on Thursday during the opening of a two-day peace conference in Kapoeta South County, Radio Emmanuel reported.Governor Konga said transferring suspected cattle raiders to Juba prison would restore confidence among the people and trust on the powers of justice.
He added that the transfer would prevent other raids.
Eastern Equatoria Governor Louis Lobong Lojore warned against politicizing disputes that arose from cattle raiding.
He said some politician blamed the state government when actions were taken against suspects in order to contain raids.
Twenty-five chiefs and cultural elders from Kapoeta South, Kapoeta East, Kapoeta North and Budi Counties are attending the peace conference aimed at creating harmony in the Greater Kapoeta region.
The participants from Toposa, Didinga and Buya communities agreed that locals helped the government to arrest suspected cattle raiders and other criminals.
