The State Government of Western Bahr El Ghazal has given seven days to returnees that settled in Wau Hangar to evacuate the place to avoid the use of force.

The hangar, located in the northwest of Wau, is accommodating 87 families repatriated from Sudan by train and boat, Voice of Hope reported.

The first batch of returnees arrived in Wau in September 2011.

The Chairman of the Eviction Committee, Michael Gaeba Ukello, told the returnees that their period ended, assistance stopped and they must clear the hangar, because the structure is going to be used for storage during the rainy season.

Mr Gaeba, who is also Wau Municipality Mayor, said most of the returnees were from neighbouring states, and that the committee did not evict them, but tried to integrate them into normal life without waiting for relief assistance.

He added that returnees from Western Bahr El Ghazal were going to receive land plots as promised.

Mr Gaeba said the eviction committee was coordinating with international NGOs to transport returnees to their states of origin and they would get an eviction note on Wednesday when the deadline to leave the hangar expired.

He explained that the committee was not targeting any specific group but wanted to use the hangar as storage facility.
