Social workers from Warrap and Western Bahr El Ghazal are receiving training on child protection skills.
More than 20 members from child protection units, civil society organizations and social workers from the two states are attending the training in Wau, Voice of Hope reported.The training aims at enlightening the participants on mapping and assessing the predominant practices that promote child well being in their societies.
Eliaba Yona Damundu, facilitator from the ministry of Gender Child Social Welfare in Juba, commended the need to equip child protection activists with data collection and mapping skills.
He said the data collected will take into account cultures and norms and must be in line with international child protection laws.
Mr Yona acknowledged the challenges child protection activists face, including cultural barriers and norms.
He explained that the trainees will have a one-day field trip to some counties within Warrap and Western Bahr El Ghazal to collect views on child abuses from institutions dealing with child protection.
The workshop is organized by the state ministry of Gender Child Social Welfare with support from UNICEF.
The training will last for four days.
