South Sudan Bureau for Community Security and Small Arms Control and UNDP’s Community Security and Arms Control are launching on Thursday an awareness campaign titled “Community Security Caravan” in Bor, Jonglei State, to prepare citizens for disarmament.

The sensitisation campaign uses education and entertainment to increase knowledge, stimulate dialogue, and positively change the long-held socio-cultural tradition about the need to own firearms, UNDP said in a media advisory.

The √É’Caravan’ initiative will run in all the ten states of South Sudan to dissuade people from acquiring arms as well as encourage those who already have guns to peacefully surrender them to the State.

Jonglei state Governor Kuol Manyang Juuk flagged off the Community Security Caravan in Bor’s Freedom Square.
