Central Equatoria Deputy Governor on Friday launched the rehabilitation of the historic 28-mile Yei-Lasu Road to the border with DR Congo.
Manase Lomole Waya stressed the importance of roads explaining that without them deliverance of services and interactions between communities would be difficult, Radio Easter reported.He appreciated the commitment of the Egyptian government to foster development in South Sudan and urged the Egyptian contractor to give a good image of his country through a better job.
Mr Lomole said the state government was committed to team work in order to render better services.
He added that the rehabilitation of the Yei-Lasu road was part of the state strategic plan to improve services, including health and education.
Yei-Lasu Road Committee Representative Alex Ade expressed happiness and appreciation to God and to the state government for the rehabilitation.
He noted the lack of support from the United Nations and its refugees agency UNHCR towards the rehabilitation of the road which was in a very bad state despite of the presence of Congolese refugees in Nyori Lasu Payam.
Mr Ade complained that the UN was not doing enough in the payam.
He appealed to the government to solve some network problems which represent a stumbling block in some payams.
The rehabilitation of the Yei-Lasu Road takes two months and costs over 2.6 million pounds.
