Citizens of Juba have expressed happiness to welcome Valentine’s Day on February 14.

Bakhita Radio asked different residents how they understood Valentine’s Day.

Alfred John, from Mauna area in Munuki Payam said Valentine’s Day is the best day for lovers all over the world.

He said he prepared some nice flowers and other things for his girlfriend.

Mr John encouraged married couples to offer gifts to one another.

Ezra Mading said the celebration depended on what one had in the house.

A businessman said Valentine’s Day was good because most people buy Valentine’s cards and flowers.

He wished the people of South Sudan peace, security and development for a better future.

Valentine’s Day was first associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

By the 15th century, it had evolved into an occasion where lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering sweets and sending greeting cards.
