JAPAN TO SET UP EDUCATION, SANITATION PROJECT IN SOMBA ISLAND

The Japanese government granted more than 244,000 US dollars to implement a project for integrated education, Sanitation and hygiene for the community of Somba Island in Central Equatoria.

Education Development Organization of South Sudan, EDOOSS will implement the project.

The grant contract was signed on Tuesday at the State Ministry of Education between Alex Muzinga Lokiden, EDOOSS Director and Mitsuhiro Kobayashi, Acting Head of the Liaison Office of the Government of Japan in Juba.

Somba Island lacks access to basic services including education, sanitation, and health facilities.

The closest school to the island is two hours walk away and some children on the island try to commute this distance to the school in Juba.
