The Vice President of the Republic met Christian and Muslim leaders over the upcoming national journey of healing for national reconciliation in South Sudan.

Riek Machar Teny met with the religious leaders on Monday evening to brainstorm on the Government’s plan to initiate a long-term national reconciliation process.

Samuel Abe represented the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba at the meeting. He told Bakhita Radio on Tuesday that the reconciliation process was long overdue.

He said the religious leaders were happy to take part in the process of healing and reconciliation because they can reach the grassroots.

Fr Abe explained that the programme will begin by training of 200 activists.

There will be also a four-day conference and ten days of outreach and dialogue from mid-April until the beginning of May.

He said the second phase of the programme will discuss issues of national reconciliation, good governance and state building.

Fr Abe appreciated the government for involving the religious leaders in matters of national concern.

He invited all people of good will to join this national call in order to bring peace to the country.

Fr Abe said the national healing and reconciliation programme will continue for the next five years.
