UNICEF is launching today a 88.4 million US dollars appeal in favour of the children of South Sudan.

The money is earmarked to meet the needs of close to three million vulnerable people in the areas of health and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, education and child protection.

The UN agency said the number of people needing food assistance in South Sudan doubled from 1.2 to 2.4 million due to inter communal conflict and flooding.

UNICEF urged the media to highlight the challenges that children continue to face in South Sudan and the need for urgent attention to address the humanitarian crisis affecting vulnerable children.
