The Chief of United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS visited Western Equatoria to assess development and security issues, LRA and African Union engagement.
Hilde Johnson told the press in Yambio that the prevailing peace and security in Western Equatoria was a vital opportunity for development agencies to see what they could do to help the government, Anisa Radio reported.Ms Johnson said Western Equatoria has agriculture potentials that require more investments.
She acknowledged that the situation remains stable in Yambio since her second visit in July last year.
Ms Johnson cited austerity measures as main challenge for development in the state.
She said UN partners are struggling to assist in building the capacity of the leaders to develop the state.
Ms Johnson asked the citizens to make proper use of the resources on the ground and cooperate with donors for sustainable development in the state.
During her visit to Yambio, the UNMISS chief held several meetings with the state government authorities, the civil societies and the UN agencies in Western Equatoria State.
