The national government said on Thursday that the situation in Wau, Western Bahr Ghazal states was contained after more police forces were brought from Rumbek to put down Wednesday’s violence.

Government Spokesperson, Barnaba Marial Benjamin told journalists in Juba that the situation has quietened down in Wau town.

He said an investigation team led by Deputy Interior minister is in Wau investigating the last week protests over County headquarters transfer to Bagari that left nine people dead.

He said the violent on Wednesday was a result of retaliation from the relatives of the victims of last week violence.

Dr Marial explained that the relatives revenged by killing 28 farmers outside Wau and when six bodies of the deceased were brought into the town, tensions rose on Wednesday.

Sources told CRN Wednesday that 40 people who sustained injuries were taken to the hospital with some in critical conditions and two dead bodies were seen.
