Eastern Equatoria state faces challenges in education sector due to shortage of teachers.

The state Minister for Education, Michael Lopuke Lotyam disclosed this while presenting a report to state council of ministers on Thursday.

He said some Counties like Kapoeta North, South and Kapoeta East have registered low enrolment due to lack of teachers.

He said poor road network, irregularities in teachers’ appointment and grading system are other factors affecting education in the state.

The state Minister for Information, Felix Otuduha told the press after the council of ministers’ meeting that the report raised concerns among the Ministers.

He said the council suggested that more teachers should be recruited after the austerity period in order to bridge the gap.

The report followed an assessment carried out in 417 schools to find out the number of permanent teachers in the schools, voluntary teachers and dead teachers.
