United States government has announced a small-scale infrastructure project to support all vulnerable populations in Abyei in an effort to build peace in the area.
In a press release issued on Monday, US Agency for International Development (USAID) has identified 3.8 US million dollars to support the rehabilitation of key water yards, schools in Abyei town, and other necessary services for all vulnerable populations.The projects are designed to mitigate potential conflicts during the dry season and foster continued political progress.
The release said the program builds on the emergency food and other humanitarian assistance, in health and clean water.
For years, the U.S. government has provided assistance to the people of Abyei as part of its peace building.
