The Governor of Lakes State has warned that his state will experience hunger due to poor harvest caused by poor rainfalls.
Chol Tong Mayai told Bakhita Radio at the side line of the Governors’ Forum in Juba that people in his state cultivated properly but crops were damaged by rain shortage.He warned that citizens in his state will experience food shortage if no assistance is given.
Mr Tong said they plan to introduce irrigation in order to avoid dependence on rainfalls as a solution to the problem of food shortage.
He added that cultivating variety of crops that could be harvested in three or less months is another solution.
The Governor revealed that people of Lakes State cultivated vast fields that would yield huge harvests but rainfalls shortage between September and November reduced them to nothing.
