The Speaker of the National Legislative Assembly is calling for a legal framework based on international treaties to punish corrupt officials.
James Wani Igga spoke at a lecture organised by Central Equatoria Assembly on corruption and anti-corruption on Friday, Bakhita Radio reported.
Mr Igga said a legal framework at both the states and national assembly level is key to effectively curb corruption.
He added that South Sudan should ratify some international treaties against corruption, including the African Charter against Corruption and Related Offences.
Mr Igga said so far no one was punished in South Sudan for corruption crimes although there should be no mercy for corrupt officials.
He urged the parliament, the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Audit Chamber to press charges and make corrupt officials accountable for whatever they did.
Mr Igga said the second force to fight corruption in the country is the National Assembly through the Public Accounts Committee.
He said countries determined to eliminate corruption and maladministration enjoy high respect from their citizens.
