The Mayor of Wau has issued a provisional order forbidding retail petrol businesses in the town to minimize fire hazards and other dangers in residential areas.

Mayor Michael Geba Ukello told Voice of Hope that his office has identified five areas where retail fuel dealers can sell their products.

He said anyone caught selling fuel along the streets risks a fine and his goods will be confiscated.

Mr Geba noted that past orders preventing street petrol retail businesses in Wau were not clear and the culprits dismissed without penalties.

He said the new order indicates the section of the court to deal with illegal sales of fuel and the penalties.

In October, a campaign against street petrol vendors in Wau was effective only for two days.

Now fuel retailers face a fine up to 500 pounds plus the confiscation of goods.
