An economist has warned that South Sudan is not building alternative pipelines to export its crude and the younger generation will face tough negotiations with the Sudan in the future.
Lual Deng Acuil was deputy oil minister in the Government of National Unity.He told the attendants of a meeting on the cooperation agreements in Juba that South Sudan’s team was not very smart in the Addis Ababa negotiations.
Dr Deng said the 3.1 billion US Dollars offer to Sudan was a bad move.
He added Juba should build pipelines instead of just talking about them.
Dr Deng said he was against the mutual forgiveness in the oil debts because South Sudan did not get its 50 percent share before separation and had nothing to be cancelled.
He added that the negotiating team did not do its homework well.
Dr Deng was presenting an analytical paper titled √É’Understanding the Addis Ababa Agreements on oil and related economic matters’ organized by the Sudd Institute on Saturday in Juba.
