Parent Teachers Association in Western Bahr El-Ghazal has raised concern against the passive involvement of parents in school management.
The passive involvement of parents in school management has resulted to low learning standard of pupils in the whole state.Members of the PTA from all the schools in the state met at Mbili Girls’ Secondary School for a three day workshop on the parents’ role in school administration.
The PTA was critical on the poor quality of education in the state and acknowledged high indiscipline among pupils that demands for the parents’ quick intervention.
Some PTA members voiced their concern and promised to get involved in the school management process.
Lucia Attilio Juma, School PTA member, said the government should not be the only one running the school affairs, but that the parents’ role is paramount.
Filberto Tibur Erneo noted that most students report to school late, but leave early and no measures are taken against them.
He said both teachers and parents share the blame of the indiscipline in most cases.
The Workshop was organized by Creative Associate International in collaboration with the state Ministry of Education.
