A yellow fever outbreak in Darfur has killed 67 people and that the number of cases has more than doubled since the start of the epidemic last month.
Yellow fever is a viral disease spread by mosquitoes which causes jaundice. Other symptoms are fever and vomiting.World Health Organization or WHO said in a report that the outbreak affected 17 localities across Darfur, with 194 cases reported, including 67 deaths.
The report recommended strengthening the disease surveillance in eastern Darfur, continuing laboratory testing of patients from newly affected localities, and carry out vaccination.
WHO estimated that 200,000 cases of yellow fever are recorded worldwide each year and as many as 30,000 die from yellow fever.
