The national parliament endorsed on Tuesday the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry and Disaster Management’s policy framework that details functions and structures.

Minister Joseph Lual Achuil told CRN that he felt great that the parliament endorsed the document after making corrections.

He said with the policy framework okayed, the ministry could concentrate on the NGOs bill and the ministry’s five-years strategic plan.

Responding to criticisms raised by some MPs that humanitarian ministry and commission were duplication, Mr Lual said they were personal opinions that did not count because the President of the Republic decided his cabinet.

He said the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission implements policies of the ministry and from the council of ministers.

Mr Lual added that it was President Salva Kiir who wanted the two institutions to exist with a clear mandate for each one.
