The United Nation Police in Yei River County, Central Equatoria, met with pupils of Christ the King Primary School on Tuesday to teach them about road safety rules and signs.
UN Police Advisor Ebenezer Ampofo is visiting all the schools in the County to urge pupils to be very careful when moving on the road.He warned the pupils not to follow bad peer groups who spend time drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana and then fall into road accidents.
Mr Ampofo added that the pupils were the future leaders of the nation.
Yei River County Deputy Director of Traffic Police Andrew Keny said in ten months there were 418 accidents recorded with eight mortal fatalities.
He advised the pupils to follow the road safety rules when travelling on the roads or crossing them to avoid accidents.
Headmaster Emmanuel Taban thanked the UN and South Sudan Police teams for visiting the school and giving guidance to the pupils on how to use the road safely.
He said Christ the King School lost one pupil last year and has cared for four this years due to road accidents.
The UN Police Advisor is conducting a seven-day road safety campaign the county in collaboration with South Sudan Traffic Police.
