The Government of Unity state has cut a quarter of civil servants’ salaries of August and September because it is receiving less money from the central Government in Juba.
Deputy Governor Michael Chiangjiak Geah said Monday in Bentiu that the state is now receiving 20 percent less of the usual revenue, Internews reported. He said the state used to receive 5.4 million Pounds per month but after the austerity budget was approved they get only 3.9 million.
Many civil servants across the country have complained of salary cuts that came as a result of austerity measures.
The national finance minister Kosti Manibe said this week that the austerity measures will hold until next June although there could be some revision.
