ACROSS, the Africa Committee for Rehabilitation of South Sudan, plans to concentrate more on development projects than offering relief services.

ACROSS celebrated 40 years on Saturday in Rumbek, Lakes State.

Acting program coordinator Andrew Marial told Good News Radio that the NGO hopes to mobilize community members to realize the potential of the available resources and help them out of the dependency syndrome.

He noted that South Sudan is blessed with plenty natural resources that needed to be used for improving people’s lives.

Mr Marial cautioned community members against overreliance on aid from Government and NGOs.

He urged people to engage in personal projects instead.

Mr Marial encouraged citizens to use the natural and other resources to improve their livelihoods and avoid cultural practices and norms that obstruct development.

ACROSS was established in 1972 following the Addis Ababa Peace Agreement to facilitate access of faith mission personnel to the Sudan.
