The prevalence of HIV in Western Bahr El Ghazal State can be reduced through techniques to prevent mother to child transmission.

Wau Teaching Hospital reports confirmed that ten children born from HIV positive mothers during the current year tested negative, Voice of Hope reported.

Supervisor for Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission in Wau Teaching Hospital, Helen Pio John, explained that the ten babies born from infected mothers underwent proper treatment from the first antenatal visit to the delivery.

She pointed out that it was important that both spouses knew their HIV status since it could help health staff to ensure the safety of unborn babies.

Ms Pio said most husbands are unwilling to turn up for the test making their work difficult.

She added that before the end of the year the hospital would ensure that cases of mother to child HIV AIDS transmission were minimized through preventive measures.
