South Sudan needs to develop sign language in schools for people with hearing impairments to be able to communicate.
South Sudan Deaf Development Concern chairperson Kachinga Peter Lokica told Bakhita Radio through a translator that the association worked hard in the last five years to raise awareness about the needs of hearing-impaired people in the country.He said the deaf face a huge communication barrier that the authorities need to address through sign language and schooling.
Deputy Director for Disability in the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, Cosmas Abu Abolou, said the ministry is trying its best to rehabilitate a learning centre for the blind in Rejaf to educate persons with disability.
He added that his ministry in partnership with the general education ministry is training teachers for that school.
Persons with disabilities are conducting a peaceful demonstration around Juba on Sunday to tell people that they are part and parcel of the community.
