Names of dead teachers who passed away in the last six years are still on Eastern Equatoria payroll.

State Education Minister Michael Lopuke Lotyam made the revelation to the state Assembly on Tuesday, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He said the government payroll has names of inactive teachers including dead, non-existent and those absent without permission.

The minister added that the constituency he represented remained with only one teacher while others claimed to be on study leave but without legitimate documents for their departure.

Mr Lopuke listed about 90 teachers from six counties who have gone for studies.

He said part time teachers do not possess appointment letters from the ministry of education.

Mr Lopuke was addressing Members of Eastern Equatoria Assembly following a motion tabled by Angela Ajana, who chairs the standing Committee for Education, Science and Technology.

The motion raised concerns on suspension of salaries of teachers who went for university studies.
